Joseph Penn, 104, of Hesperia, California, passed away 5 January 2022. He was a retired minister and missionary who served in Eswatini, Mozambique, and South Africa for 40 years.

The Africa Region’s Engagement and Equipping team, together with the Personnel and NMI team, recently held its first Explore event since the COVID-19 pandemic.

Russell Human, 86, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away 16 October 2021. He was a retired minister, missionary, and district superintendent, who served the Church of the Nazarene for nearly 50 years.

Nazarene Children for Christ Ministries for East Africa, a discipleship ministry that works in six countries, is using social media and messaging applications to continue teaching children throughout the pandemic.

The Africa Region announced the appointment of Solomon Ndlovu as field strategy coordinator for the Africa South Field, effective 1 July 2021.

Elizabeth “Beth” Merki, 88, of Millville, New Jersey, passed away 29 June 2021. She served as a missionary for 32 years in South Africa, Swaziland (now Eswatini), and Papua New Guinea, alongside her late husband, Robert Merki.

Eleanor Drinkwater, 96, of Leesburg, Florida, passed away 30 June 2021. She was a missionary for 21 years, serving in Swaziland (Eswatini) and Malawi alongside her husband, J. Edward Drinkwater.

The city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo was rocked by a large eruption of the Nyiragongo Volcano on the night of 22 May 2021. Around 400,000 people have evacuated and about 20,000 are homeless.
