On 18 May 2026, the PNUP (Pendidikan Nazarene Untuk Pelayanan) Learning Center on the Papua District in Indonesia officially opened as a new learning center hub for the Sealands Field. This moment marked a significant milestone in the development of ministerial preparation in the district.
The PNUP Learning Center in Papua is a symbol of the field and district’s commitment to expanding access to quality education for ministers across districts. The center will serve as a decentralized educational facility aimed at offering quality education and equipping ministers to effectively serve in ministry across districts. Here, ministers pursuing ordination or seeking to deepen their understanding of theology and ministry can receive comprehensive Nazarene education without leaving their respective areas to enroll in a formal school.
The PNUP Learning Center in Papua also makes history as the first of its kind on the Sealands Field. Therefore, this opening is a strategic and inspiring step toward the future development of the educational ministry. It is hoped that each district in the Sealands Field will eventually have a learning center in its respective area, so that Nazarene education can reach more servants of God more effectively and equitably.
The opening ceremony was filled with joy, enthusiasm, and thanksgiving to God. Pastors, district and local church leaders, ministers, church members, and invited guests were present to witness the commencement of this educational ministry. The event also received attention and support from the Jayapura City Government. The government was represented by Evert Nicolas Merauje, the assistant for government affairs of the Jayapura City Regional Secretariat.
“The church is called to serve,” said Merauje, “but it must also be present and meaningful to the community. Programs like PNUP are very positive because they address real needs within the community.”
He also expressed his appreciation to the Church of the Nazarene, especially in the Papua District, for its continued innovation in ministry through education. He stated that this program is expected to spread the same spirit within the community.
