In an effort to enrich the educational journey of more than 700 children, Myanmar Tutoring Centers—an after-school initiative supported by Nazarene Compassionate Ministries—recently conducted a dynamic two-day teacher training in early August. Educators from 27 centers across the Southern and Southeast districts of Myanmar participated in the training.
The training was facilitated by Filipino educators Leo Mahanlud and Leah Mae Alquizar, whose interactive sessions introduced practical, child-centered strategies such as song-based instruction, storytelling, and game-based learning—all designed to spark creativity, engagement, and joy in the classroom.
Adding further depth, Dan Balayo, regional holistic child development coordinator, led an insightful session on safeguarding children and the importance of creating safe spaces—an essential foundation for holistic child development.
Beyond teaching techniques, the training also served as a collaborative review of the existing tutoring curriculum. Educators discussed plans to design a unified, locally relevant curriculum aligned with the centers’ vision, mission, and goals—ensuring consistency, spiritual integration, and long-term impact.
Teachers not only gained practical tools for effective instruction but were also given time for reflection, collaboration, and spiritual renewal. Sessions on weaving gospel sharing and Christian values into everyday lessons reinforced the mission of nurturing both minds and hearts.
This impactful initiative was made possible through the leadership of Tin Oo, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM) district coordinator, and the unwavering support of Rama, district superintendent. Special appreciation goes to Chapman International College for hosting the training, to Bill Kwon, field strategy coordinator, and Jasmin Eugenio, field NCM coordinator, whose dedication helped bring this vision to reality. This training marks a significant milestone in the ongoing growth of the Myanmar Tutoring Centers—strengthening the quality of education and deepening the impact of faith-based nurturing across the region.
