It is with heavy hearts that the Asia-Pacific Region joins the Papua New Guinea (PNG) Field in announcing the passing of Ako Arua, district superintendent of Papua New Guinea Central District.
Arua was a loyal servant of Christ and a pillar of strength for the Church of the Nazarene in Port Moresby and across the country. His ministry areas ranged from youth ministry to pastoring to jumpstarting the Nazarene radio ministry to leading the PNG South Coast District (2014-2022) and serving as a pioneer for God’s kingdom to help create the PNG Central District.
He faithfully shepherded his flock, serving as the district superintendent of the PNG Central District from its very creation in 2021 until his passing. His leadership laid the groundwork for a legacy that will continue to bear fruit for generations to come.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lily. While we mourn his loss, we celebrate that he is survived by their caring children—Marilyn, Maria, Ozka, Margaret, and countless more he and Lily loved and cared for—and their families, who carry forward his spirit of devotion.
“He has gone to be with the Maker he joyfully preached and sang about,” said his daughter Marilyn, as she shared the news of his passing.
“His life was exemplary of Christlikeness and faithful service to the people of God and the community,” said Peniperite Fakaua, strategy coordinator for the PNG Field. “Superintendent Arua’s years of guidance and leadership left a lasting legacy of compassion, devotion, and inspiration. He’ll be remembered for his unwavering dedication and the humility he showed to everyone he led. His influence will continue to inspire and shape the lives of those he touched.”
The Asia-Pacific Region and the global Nazarene family extend their deepest condolences and prayers to the Arua family and the PNG Central District during this time of mourning. We honor his legacy and rejoice in the assurance that he is now in the presence of the Savior he served so faithfully.
