At the upcoming 31st General Assembly and Conventions in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, held 25 June – 2 July 2027, the global Church of the Nazarene comes together for a time of worship, reflection, celebration and vision casting, alongside conducting the necessary quadrennial business of the denomination.

Part of this special week are the Conventions of the Local Church Ministries, which is comprised of Nazarene Discipleship International (NDI), Nazarene Missions International (NMI), and Nazarene Youth International (NYI). This article explores the NMI Convention.

When and where is the NMI Convention?

The NMI Convention will take place in the Grand Ballroom of the Kansas City Convention Center. The convention opens the 31st General Assembly and Conventions in conjunction with the rest of the local church ministries for an opening service at 8 a.m. central time on Friday 25 June. The NMI Convention will conclude following the quadrennial address delivered the morning of Monday 28 June.

Who attends the NMI Convention?

NMI is expecting around 1,400 delegates. Delegates and alternates to the NMI Convention are elected during district NMI Conventions.

NMI global council members, regional coordinators, and NMI district presidents are ex officio members of the Global NMI Convention. Each Global Missions region also elects one missionary.

While business conducted during the NMI Convention is specifically for those indicated above, any member of the Church of the Nazarene is invited to attend any of the NMI plenary sessions and workshops.

What happens at the NMI Convention?

Through worship, reports, workshops and fellowship, the hope is that participants gain a deeper understanding of how God is working through Nazarene Missions International and around the world to advocate for missions.

During the NMI Convention, every world region will be highlighted, having the opportunity to share ministry stories, accomplishments, and significant developments from the past four years.

The Global NMI director will also present the director’s report, reflecting on the ministry, impact, and progress of NMI during the past quadrennium, while also sharing the priorities and vision for the future.

One significant tradition of the NMI Convention is an opportunity to pray for those serving around the world as missionaries in the Church of the Nazarene. This meaningful time allows delegates to hear stories of ministry, celebrate God’s work through missionary service, and unite in prayer for those serving across the six world regions of the Church of the Nazarene.

Why is the NMI Convention important?

“We hope that each NMI leader will leave with practical tools, resources, and fresh inspiration to serve as a Global Missions advocate in their local church,” said Cheryl Crouch, Global NMI director. “Ultimately, we pray everyone leaves with a renewed passion for missions and a greater commitment to making Christlike disciples in the nations.”
