The African Diaspora is a primary focus in the Africa Region, and the Sudan South District encompasses a diaspora across East Africa, who meet in refugee camps, neighbourhoods, and traditional church buildings.

The district prioritises uniting youth through sports, promoting evangelism and fostering connections among them. The South Sudanese people, especially the youth, face deep divisions politically, socially, and economically. Many of them are living as refugees outside their country due to the ongoing conflict.

In the spirit of a sports tournament held earlier in the year, a one-day sports gala was hosted on 27 September by the South Sudanese youth in Kampala, Uganda. At this event, missionary John Yual Nguth and Seith Bogere, the Africa East Field NYI coordinator, brought together hundreds of youth and church leaders for a soccer tournament.

The competition promoted Christlike discipleship through sports and has become a successful strategy for fostering unity and harmony among diverse faith groups. John Yual delivered a message of hope, the good news of Jesus Christ, with the young people. Coaches and teams also spent time praying together.

Today, in a society that remains fragmented by religious and cultural distinctions, the Church of the Nazarene remains committed to finding effective ways to unite its youth. Sports ministry has proven to be a powerful approach in bringing young people from diverse backgrounds and faiths together under one umbrella.
