In early February, the Nazarene Youth International (NYI) Sierra Leone conducted a special evangelistic outreach to inmates at the correctional centre in the nation’s capital, Freetown.
In their ministry, NYI youths preached from the Word of God, admonished on the effects of “drug abuse,” offered prayers, and donated copies of the Bible to the prisoners. They also offered legal assistance to some inmates, as some team members have legal backgrounds.
Appreciating the gesture, the prison authorities commended the youth for their “Christlike” gesture of love, which reassured the inmates of God’s mercies towards the repentant soul.
In a vote of thanks, the prison leader thanked the youths and praised God, because their visit has rekindled hope of freedom in the inmates.
In their farewell statement, the youth assured those present of subsequent visits and that God’s grace would add more blessings to their lives. This activity, seen as part of their campaign against drug abuse in their communities, is the first of NYI’s outreach programs in Sierra Leon.
