The Board of General Superintendents has announced the appointment of General Superintendent Emeritus David Graves as the interim superintendent of the South Texas District on 19 March 2026.

The appointment was made by General Superintendent David Busic, in consultation with the South Texas District Advisory Committee and the Board of General Superintendents.

This action was taken following the election of Jeffrey Johnson, current superintendent of the South Texas District, to the role of USA/Canada Region director. Graves’ appointment is effective 24 May 2026. He will serve through the 2027 South Texas district assembly, where the election of a new superintendent is expected to occur.

Graves has served as a pastor in Ohio, Tennessee, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Kansas. He was the denominational director of Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries (now NDI) from 2001 to 2006.

He was elected the General Superintendent of the Church of the Nazarene at the 27th General Assembly and Conventions in Orlando, Florida, in 2009. He served in this role until his retirement in 2023 at the 30th General Assembly and Conventions, where he was granted emeritus status. He has recently helped oversee the USA/Canada Region’s preaching collaborative.

David and his wife, Sharon, have four adult children and 12 grandchildren.
