The Board of General Superintendents (BGS) has elected Jeffrey Johnson to the position of USA/Canada regional director, effective 1 May 2026. Johnson has served as superintendent of the South Texas District since 2013 and succeeds Stan Reeder, who has led the USA/Canada Region since 2020.

The Church of the Nazarene’s General Board ratified the election with an email vote coordinated by General Secretary Gary Hartke. Gustavo Crocker, BGS chair, and Jim Ritchie, Global Missions director, led the nomination and election process.

“The Board of General Superintendents is thankful for the visionary and passionate leadership that Dr. Stan Reeder provided to the US/Canada Region in recent years, and we welcome Dr. Jeffrey Johnson to this important missional assignment,” Crocker said. “Dr. Johnson brings a wealth of experience as a pastor, district superintendent, and as a facilitator of key regional initiatives that have impacted the church in this region. His relational and missional skills are an asset to resource the church in this season of resurgence.”

Global Missions Director Jim Ritchie expressed his excitement for the election of Jeffrey Johnson to this new role in ministry.

“His experience as a local and district leader is valuable, and he has a great passion for Jesus and for missions. I am confident that Dr. Johnson will build on the great leadership of Dr. Stan Reeder as he retires from this role, and further develop the Cycle of Resurgence on the Region as we seek to make Christlike disciples in the USA and Canada.”

In addition to his role as district superintendent, Johnson has pastored churches in Tennessee, Iowa, Oklahoma, and Texas.

“God is bringing new life in His church in the USA and Canada,” Johnson said. “I am challenged and excited to partner with our leaders and pastors to continue to take the next steps as the Spirit leads us.”

Jeffrey earned his bachelor’s from Trevecca Nazarene University in 1985, later earning a Master of Divinity in 1988 from Nazarene Theological Seminary. He earned a Doctorate of Ministry from Asbury Theological Seminary in 2003.

He has served as a youth pastor at Clarksville Park Lane Church of the Nazarene (1988-89) and Nashville First Church of the Nazarene (1991-94), and as a lead pastor at Portland Church of the Nazarene (1989-91), all in Tennessee.

He became the lead pastor of Council Bluffs First Church of the Nazarene (1994-97), Iowa, before moving to Oklahoma City in 1997 to serve on staff at Oklahoma City Trinity Church of the Nazarene until 2001.

In 2001, he became the lead pastor of Houston First Church of the Nazarene (now Graceway Church of the Nazarene), where he served until his election as superintendent of the South Texas District in 2013.

Jeffrey is the son of the late General Superintendent Talmadge Johnson. Jeffrey and his wife, Julie, have been married since 1985, and have two daughters.
