The Church of the Nazarene in Mainz, Germany, is seeking volunteers to serve alongside local ministries focused on compassionate outreach, community engagement, and relational ministry among vulnerable populations. This opportunity allows volunteers to participate in practical ministry while building relationships with people experiencing homelessness, addiction, poverty, and social isolation.

This missionary will join the ministry of Eden e.V. in Mainz, serving alongside local church leaders, social workers, and ministry teams through a social center and community coffee shop that supports individuals experiencing homelessness, addiction, economic hardship, and social marginalization. The ministry creates spaces of belonging, practical support, and spiritual care where people can experience dignity, community, and hope. Volunteers will have the opportunity to engage relationally with guests while supporting practical ministry activities and outreach programs.

Mainz is home to many individuals facing homelessness, addiction, poverty, and social isolation, as well as refugees and migrants navigating difficult life situations. While Germany has strong social support systems, many people still experience loneliness, disconnection, and difficulty navigating complicated bureaucratic processes.

The Eden e.V. ministry exists to create spaces where people experience practical support, authentic relationships, and spiritual hope. Through the social coffee shop, food distribution, community groups, worship gatherings, and relational ministry, the church seeks to demonstrate the unconditional love of Jesus in practical and transformative ways.

Short-term volunteers become part of this mission by helping foster welcoming environments where individuals can encounter community, dignity, restoration, and faith.

This role exists to support compassionate ministry, relational evangelism, and community transformation among vulnerable populations in Mainz. Volunteers will have the opportunity to serve as Christian witnesses through hospitality, friendship, practical care, and authentic presence while growing personally in discipleship, compassion, and cross-cultural ministry.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with hospitality and daily operations of the social coffee shop
• Build relationships with guests and community members
• Help serve meals and distribute food during ministry activities
• Support outreach programs and community gatherings
• Participate in church activities, worship gatherings, and community events
