General Superintendent Scott Daniels delivered the annual Board of General Superintendents’ report during the 102nd session of the General Board, 27-30 September 2026, held in person in Overland Park, Kansas, USA.
Daniels’ report, titled “A multitude from every nation,” emphasized the strength of the Church of the Nazarene’s global makeup. As General Assembly returns to Kansas City next summer for the first time since 1980, Daniels examined the growth of the Church of the Nazarene over the last 50 years.
Since 1976, the Church of the Nazarene has grown from 6,716 fully organized churches, to 22,593, and total membership has grown from 604,127 members with 25.3% (141,990) from outside the USA/Canada Region, to 2,764,205 members with 79.7% (2,205,587) from outside the USA/Canada Region.
Daniels connected the decisions that were made at the General Assemblies in 1976 and 1980 to that growth he highlighted. He called back on words of Jerald Johnson written in his book The International Experience.
“The Church of the Nazarene is not destined to smallness identified by bigotry and self-centeredness,” Johnson wrote. “To the contrary, it will be increasingly alive and vibrant as it infiltrates each segment of society as well as each ‘nook and cranny’ of the world seeking to save those who would otherwise be lost.”
Daniels closed by reminding the Church of the call to make disciples among the nations.
“The Church of the Nazarene is, at its best, a living foretaste of the day when people from every nation, tribe, people, and language will stand together before the throne of the Lamb,” Daniels said. “Our international identity is not merely an organizational achievement or a strategy for extending our reach. It is a theological witness. It declares that the grace of God is gathering people whose unity is found not in sameness, but in Jesus Christ.”
