Point Loma Nazarene University (PLNU) Professor Glen Laster unexpectedly and suddenly passed away on 10 September 2026. Laster was an associate professor of sociology and psychology, who had taught and worked at the university for over 20 years.
“It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the sudden passing of our professor, colleague, and friend, Glen Laster,” Point Loma Nazarene University said. “For more than 20 years, Glen has been a bright light in our community, forming meaningful relationships and influencing the lives of countless students, faculty, and staff.”
According to The Point, PLNU’s student news outlet, Point Loma president Kerry Fulcher sent an email to students to notify them of Laster’s passing and encouraged students to seek counseling and grief support services if needed.
“Glen has been a bright light in our community, forming meaningful relationships and influencing the lives of countless students, faculty, and staff,” Fulcher said, adding “Grief touches each of us differently, so in the days ahead, may we extend grace, comfort and support as we mourn this loss together.”
Laster spent many years in public safety, serving as a public safety officer and the assistant director of public safety at Point Loma. He was the founder of the Southern Civil Rights Pilgrimage at the university, which has had a profound impact on the lives of many students.
PLNU will hold a service in Brown Chapel at 2 p.m. on 18 September 2026, which will be a time of prayer, reflection and remembrance of Laster’s life.
