MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) is launching the first Direct Entry Master of Science in Nursing (DE-MSN) program in Kansas, creating an accelerated pathway for individuals with a bachelor’s degree in a non-nursing field to become registered nurses while earning a master’s degree.

Designed for career changers and others seeking to enter the nursing profession without completing a second bachelor’s degree, students will complete the 75-credit-hour program in approximately 24 months through a combination of online coursework, hands-on clinical experiences, and faculty mentorship. Graduates will be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination and enter the workforce with both registered nurse preparation and a Master of Science in Nursing degree.

“This program responds to a critical need in healthcare while opening new opportunities for students who feel called to nursing,” said Jennifer Ferguson, DNP, RN, associate dean of MNU School of Nursing. “The Direct Entry MSN creates a streamlined pathway that allows students to build on their prior academic achievements, saving them time and money.”

According to healthcare workforce projections, demand for qualified nurses continues to grow nationwide. MNU leaders believe the new program will help address workforce needs while expanding access to graduate-level nursing education for individuals from a wide range of academic and professional backgrounds.

The program combines foundational nursing education with master’s-level coursework, providing leadership, quality and safety, healthcare systems, and evidence-based practice. Students will gain extensive clinical skills while developing advanced knowledge and the critical thinking needed to take on leadership roles after gaining nursing work experience.

The Direct Entry MSN joins MNU’s growing portfolio of nursing programs and reflects the university’s commitment to addressing workforce needs through innovative academic offerings.
