The Africa Region Church of the Nazarene is celebrating the appointment of Aweis Ali as the Field Strategy Coordinator for the newly restructured Horn of Africa Field (HOAF), effective immediately. A Somali-born leader with a strong commitment to evangelism and leadership growth, Ali brings decades of ministry experience.

Ali became a Christian in Mogadishu, Somalia, in 1986, after listening to radio broadcasts. From 1993 to 1996, he served as a house church pastor. In 1996, he joined the Church of the Nazarene in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, where he began his ministry as an evangelist. Since then, Ali has held various leadership roles across the Horn of Africa, including district superintendent and Horn of Africa Missions Coordinator.

In 2005, Ali and his wife were appointed as missionaries, expanding their influence and service in the region. Before dedicating himself to full-time ministry, he also worked with international organizations like UNOSOM, UNICEF, and Samaritan’s Purse in Somalia.

Ali earned a Bachelor of Theology from Evangelical Theological College in Addis Ababa, a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, and a PhD from Africa Nazarene University in Nairobi, Kenya.

In his new role, Ali is especially passionate about fostering reconciliation and demonstrating Christlike character within the church. He is driven by a vision to effectively share the gospel with underserved and hard-to-reach communities. One of his favorite scriptures that reflects his faith and perseverance is 2 Timothy 3:12: “In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.”

Ali is married to LeCrecia, who shares his calling and dedication to ministry in Africa. The Ali family has six children. Let us pray for Aweis and LeCrecia as they take on this new responsibility. Let us pray for God’s guidance and strength to sustain them in this assignment.
