The Nazarene Library Network (NLN) recently concluded a successful week of intensive professional development at the Seminario Teológico Nazareno del Cono Sur in Pilar, Argentina, in late February. The seminar brought together librarians from Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, and Peru to streamline library operations and expand digital access to theological resources across the South America Region.
Led by Sharon Bull and Erin McCoy, the training focused on integrating library management systems and open-access platforms to better serve global educational needs. Participants engaged in comprehensive workshops covering: [list]
Integrated Library Systems: Practical implementation of OPALS for streamlined cataloging and circulation
Digital Resource Expansion: Maximizing the use of the Wesleyan-Holiness
Digital Library (WHDL) for shared access to resources
Academic Research Tools: Utilization of EBSCO e-book to strengthen research processes for students and faculty
Meeting and observing the local staff dedicated to the digitization of the Heraldo de Santidad (Herald of Holiness, now known as Holiness Today) was one of the highlights of the week. This project ensures that unique, Spanish-language content is preserved and made accessible to a global audience through the WHDL.
The seminar began with a focus on community and shared vision, as attendees defined collective goals and hopes for a successful week. Jorge Julca, president of Seminario Teológico Nazareno del Cono Sur, extended the spirit of collaboration to the support staff. Julca hosted the group on site, providing the lodging and classroom space needed for this intense work.
“The passion and dedication of these librarians are truly encouraging,” said Erin McCoy. “We spent the week ‘in the weeds’ of technical library work, and we are returning to our respective homes energized by the opportunity to make a difference where God has placed us”.
This event represents a valuable step in consolidating library cooperation networks, promoting access to quality academic resources and equipping those preparing to serve in God’s mission.
