On 16 January 2026, the Bolivia El Alto Noreste District elected Vicente Murga as superintendent during the 20th District Assembly, held at Villa Abaroa Church of the Nazarene in El Alto, Bolivia.
The Bolivia El Alto Noreste District, comprised of 91 churches, held a week-long process of reporting and ministerial reflection. Around 400 attendees, including priests, pastors, ministers, and lay people, experienced a space of unity, dialogue, and prayer, strengthening the bonds of fraternity and cooperation between the churches on the district.
One of the most significant moments of the day was the expression of gratitude to Bernabé Arequipa for his eight years of service as district superintendent. Arequipa was recognized for his pastoral leadership, dedication, and commitment to the mission of the Kingdom. His ministry left a visible mark on the strengthening of the district, his close support of the churches, and his promotion of ministry work in all areas.
The assembly elected Murga as the new district superintendent, entrusting his life and ministry to the Lord’s guidance in his new role.
The Assembly was attended by Jurisdictional General Superintendent Carla Sunberg and her husband, Charles Sunberg; Central Andean Field Strategy Coordinator Evelio Vásquez and his wife, Gladis Bereche, among others. Their participation reaffirmed the spirit of unity and shared mission that drives the church in the South America Region.
During her keynote address, Carla Sunberg shared a message of challenge and hope, emphasizing that the church moves forward when Christ lives in us and when we fully depend on the anointing of the Holy Spirit. She encouraged every pastor, leader, and church to become true “centers of holy fire,” relying not on their own strength, but on the power that comes from God.
