Volunteers come together to help Pataskala nursing home following fire
Pataskala, Ohio

(WBNS, 30 July) A local restaurant owner and two others loaded up a trailer for its second trip from the Pataskala Church of the Nazarene to the Pataskala Oaks Care Center to take supplies back to the nursing home following a fire earlier in the week resulting in 73 residents being evacuated to the church.
“It does speak to the sense of community,” said Derrick Ratliff, director of operations at the Oaks Care Center. “It speaks to the folks who live here. At the end of the day, not a single thing was missed as it relates to treatments, medications, anything that they had a need was managed.”
All displaced residents’ housing and needs are currently being taken care of, and Ratliff hopes Oaks Care Center will be back to operational very soon.

“Best Week Ever” volunteers remodeling home of deserving family
Harrisonburg, Virginia

(WHSV, 31 July) More than 200 volunteers are working to remodel the home of a family in Harrisonburg, Virginia. After suffering a life-threatening accident, the homeowner, who is also a member of The First Church of the Nazarene, had to reconstruct her life. The church wanted to find a way to give back and get them excited to live in Harrisonburg again.
“We want to make sure that it’s ready for them and they don’t have to do any additional work later on,” said Sam Montanez, church Hispanic ministries pastor.
The church is building two wheelchair-accessible entry ramps as well as a remodel of the bathroom and the kitchen to be more accommodating for the new homeowner’s circumstances.
