What motivates you to work with youth?
It’s a call from God to encourage, equip and mentor teens to live according His purpose. That purpose that includes experiencing intimacy with God and freedom from the sin, as well as the possibility of partnering with Him in His mission while walking in a deeper and deeper relationship with Christ and others everyday.
How many years have you been in youth ministry?
Over 20 years
What is the best book you have read relating to youth ministry?
Well, I choose “Manual para líderes de jóvenes” by Felix Ortiz because it was the very first one I read when I was looking for specialized resources in youth ministry in Spanish and there were not others… besides it has excellent content.
What’s the best advice you can give a youth leader?
Ay, ay, ay, the best advice? It’s hard to pick just one but I would say: youth ministry requires a teamwork effort: parents, pastoral staff, volunteers, teens, etc. so don’t try to do it by yourself.
What’s the best advice you can give to parents of youth?
The same advice I would give a youth pastor… youth ministry is a teamwork effort, as a youth leader, I’m so happy to partner with them in the journey of reflecting Jesus to their children and inviting them to follow Him.
What would you like the church to know about today’s youth?
Young people are very important and we (children, youth and adults) need each other, so let’s work intentionally to experience and show this reality in the daily life of our congregations.
