Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International to reduce workforce

Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International to reduce workforce

by | 21 Sep 2011

In response to the ongoing financial challenges and as part of its revisioning of the Global Ministry Center in Lenexa, Kansas, USA, the Board of General Superintendents announced September 21, 2011, that Sunday School and Discipleship Ministries International will reduce its workforce due to budgetary restrictions. After much prayer and in consultation with the Executive Committee of the General Board, the decision was made to reconfigure and reduce the department to five full time people under the direction of Woodie Stevens. This is being done as part of the GMC’s changing relationship with the local church.

The positions of adult ministries director and children's ministries director are being vacated.

Changes in personnel are effective November 1, 2011.

Since the General Board meetings in February 2011, departments and ministries at the GMC have been restructuring in order to deal with new economic realities. During this time the number of employees serving at the GMC was reduced by more than 30 individuals. The SDMI decision is a continuation of this process.

"This has been a season of significant change and transition at the Global Ministry Center," said J. K. Warrick, BGS chair.

"We are grateful for the diligent and faithful service of all personnel who served at the GMC, including those in SDMI,” Warrick added.

The BGS, along with SDMI, is committed to finding new ways of serving the interests of children, youth, and adults through Sunday School, small groups, and discipleship ministries.
