Deadly earthquake rattles Japanese island
A 6.7 magnitude earthquake struck the Japanese island of Hokkaido 6 September, triggering landslides and causing massive power outages. There have been 16 confirmed deaths and 26 people are reported missing.
About half of Hokkaido’s 5.3 million residents were without power Friday. Residents throughout the island were waiting for running water, telephone services, and transportation services to be restored.
There has been no confirmed damage to any Nazarene churches in the area. The home and church of Japan District Superintendent Furukawa were not affected by the earthquake.
Prayer is requested for those who have lost loved ones, as well as for the recovery process and restoration of the island.
More information will be posted as it is made available.
