Cuba holds camps for pastors' children

by | 23 Aug 2019

The Church of the Nazarene in Cuba recently held camps for pastors' children on both districts.

The Eastern District was divided into two groups. The first group met in Holguin where Regional Family Care Ministry Coordinators Irene and Miguel Garita shared the theme “Equipping for Life” with the aim of providing PKs with tools to overcome any circumstance that arises in their lives.

During the camp, the young people and children who lost their parents in the tragic plane crash 18 May 2018 received spiritual and psychological care. In addition, three grandmothers who take care of some of the children also received care.

“As for the three grandmothers, we managed to help their situation by leading them in overcoming the tragedy, thus improving the relationship with the grandchildren in their care, especially those who are navigating adolescence,” said Paquita Bido, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries coordinator for the Mesoamerica Central Field.

The camp also featured sessions for pastors' wives and ministry leaders.

The second camp, led by Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, was held in Misi. The same issues were discussed, and Balbuena said they were all blessed in a special way.

The Cuba Western District held its camp July 23 to 27 with the same theme. Over 100 people attended, including 36 children, 28 teenagers and 72 adults. The children enjoyed several activities and received gifts.

“It was a blessing; everyone was very happy," Balbuena said. "The goals were met and everyone left equipped for life. On their way out, the children were telling their parents what they learned, even the youngest ones.

“Many thanks to all who made this long-awaited dream possible for the pastors’ children.”
