Costa Rica children receive care boxes, hear the Gospel

by | 19 Mar 2019

The San Jorge Church of the Nazarene in Costa Rica shared the Gospel with 50 children from the de la Virgen community by providing care boxes with items donated by church members in Canada.

The boxes each contained items that were catered to different ages: 2-4 years old, 5-9 years old, and 10-14 years old.

After delivering the boxes, the children had a chance to share if the boxes contained something specific they needed, and two children volunteered. A 12-year-old boy said that he did not have deodorant because his had broken, and his box had a container of deodorant. Another boy said that he needed undergarments because all of his had holes, and his box had exactly what he needed.

“It was incredible to hear the testimonies, because they were things they needed,” said Estefania Amador, San Jorge church interim pastor. “That’s why I told each one their boxes were a gift from God.”

Some parents also heard the message of salvation when they accompanied their children to receive the boxes. All of the children are currently participating in a three-month discipleship class, and they recently made bracelets that remind them Jesus is always with them.

“God has done marvelous things in this place,” Amador said. “Where there was nothing, now there is a group of children and adults who praise God. We thank God for what He is doing.”

The San Jorge church re-opened seven months ago after being closed for the last two years, and they are passionate about reaching their community. Amador and the church have been working arduously on several other community outreach projects that she hopes to launch soon.
