A trauma-informed care initiative provided essential psychosocial support to more than 130 children under 15 and their families at the Sein Pan neighborhood evacuation center in Mandalay from 15-17 April 2025.

This program targeted survivors displaced by a recent earthquake and fire that forced 84 households—415 individuals—to seek refuge.

Organized by the field Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM), local NCM, and the Myanmar Hi Kidz Foundation, the care initiative involved eight Chapman International College staff and student volunteers along with church leaders trained by Jasmin Eugenio, the field NCM coordinator. Using the trauma-care handbook “There Is Hope,” volunteers engaged the children in activities like art therapy, group discussions, and games to help them process emotions and build resilience.

Meanwhile, Adam Joshua and other pastors provided prayers and spiritual support to 30 households.

“We listened to the children’s fears and showed them God’s love through action,” said Ram Tin Par.

The initiative’s impact was clear when a 4.5-magnitude aftershock struck on the final day, yet children and adults reacted calmly.

Ten-year-old Nyan Kaung Htet, who had struggled with nightmares, shared, “After the games and encouragement, I sleep better now.”

Parents praised the initiative, with one mother urging an extension, saying, “It has brought our children peace.”

This request underscores the ongoing need for support. Joshua stated, “Many victims have begun to heal. Through love, we’ve shown them they are not alone.”

The trauma-informed care program is vital in addressing trauma and fostering long-term recovery in the community.
