by | 10 Aug 2018

Mount Vernon Nazarene University will welcome alumni and their families back to campus for a weekend of reuniting and reminiscing. This annual celebration will begin Thursday, 8 November and continue through Sunday morning with a special worship and celebration service. Highlights will include a Golden Gala, Alumni Leadership Summit, a career preparation and networking event, basketball games, and the Gold Rush 5.0K and 0.5K.

The weekend’s activities will begin with Pathways to Success, a career preparation and networking event for students, featuring alumni professional guests. Festivities continue with the President’s Prayer Breakfast on Friday morning, hosted by MVNU President Henry W. Spaulding II. The Homecoming Chapel Service in the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium will follow at 10:20 a.m. and will feature an alumni band and a display of the university’s rich history. Following Chapel, the Alumni Leadership Summit will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. featuring presentations and discussion-based workshops by alumni for alumni and current students in professional fields such as new business, social media and marketing, orphan care and adoption, and more.

Friday evening, beginning with the women’s basketball game against Midway University at 5 p.m., alumni and friends are invited to attend the Alumni Celebration. The entire event will last from 5-10 p.m. where alumni and their families can enjoy a photo booth, finger foods, and an unforgettable time with friends. The men’s basketball team will take on sister-school Olivet Nazarene University in non-conference play from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The Gold Rush 5.0K and 0.5K event will begin Saturday, 10 Nov. at 9 a.m. outside the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium and is open to the public. The weekend will also feature multiple sporting events and a number of activities for children.

The Alumni Relations department will host the Golden Gala, the iconic and pinnacle 50th Anniversary Celebration event on Saturday evening, from 6-8 p.m., in the Donoho Recreation Center with live music, award presentations, and enlivening entertainment. Alumni and friends will share dinner with classmates from every graduating year and visit with former faculty and staff.
