More than 1,000 people from 21 countries gathered in Panama City, Panama, for MAX 22, the Mesoamerica regional conference.

The attendees traveled far to worship together as well as learn and receive training on three topics: children, youth, and urban centers.

“The presence of God was truly felt at all times, and the experience was tremendous,” said Anyilein Bernal, a MAX attendee. “Now, (it’s time) to put everything we learned into practice.”

During the three days, Nazarenes from across the region were able to join together in unity, creating many memories and lasting relationships.

“MAX22 represents a before and after for the Church of the Nazarene in Mesoamerica,” said Markus Hamilton, a member of the event's praise team. “I have many pleasant moments and, above all, that joy that koinonia (fellowship) produces with my brothers.”

Sermons and workshops were given by General Superintendent Gustavo Crocker, General Secretary Gary Hartke, Global Nazarene Discipleship International Director Scott Rainey, Pastor Cris Zimmermann, Kansas City District Superintendent Eddie Estep, Joplin District Superintendent Phil Rhoades, Kansas District Superintendent Jim Bond, South America Literature Coordinator Patricia Picavea, Kentucky District Superintendent Brian Powell, Global Nazarene Youth International Director David González, And Carlos Sáenz, regional director for Mesoamerica. Global Nazarene Youth International Director David González and Global Missions Director Verne Ward were also in attendance.

The conference was the third held in Mesoamerica and the first in Panama after the previous editions were held in Guatemala in 2011 and 2015.

MAX was originally scheduled to take place in 2020 but had to be postponed for two years due the COVID-19 pandemic.

"It was wonderful to meet so many Nazarenes and celebrate together after the pandemic,” said Rosa de Sáenz, general organizer of the event. “It is a miracle and a dream for me.”
