Hundreds of quizzers gather for Q2018

by | 10 Jul 2018

Nearly 400 quizzers from the Church of the Nazarene's USA/Canada Region gathered 25-30 June at MidAmerica Nazarene University for the bi-annual youth quizzing event, Q2018.

Produced by Nazarene Youth International USA/Canada, the event featured a tournament-style competition, plenary worship sessions throughout the week, and a block party that included lawn games and opportunities for the youth to speak to MNU admissions counselors.

Participants competed in teams of five against other teams from across the region. Matches were live streamed on the regional quizzing website for family, friends, and quizzers who couldn't attend the trip.

Each "Q" event focuses on a specific part of the Bible that the youth are expected to study. This year all questions were pulled from 1 and 2 Corinthians, and the teams prepared up to a year in advance, studying Scripture and committing the books to memory.

Throughout the week, several awards were handed out to competition finalists, essayists, and those who exhibited exemplary knowledge in their district. This year, the Eastern Field (Eastern Nazarene College) won the field division.

“Q2018 rounded up a year's worth of efforts put into studying Scripture," said Allison Campbell, NYI Quizzing liaison for the region. "This dedication and discipline were evident during the 1,300 rounds of quizzing that took place at 'Q.' What is even more impressive is the encouragement they gave each other during and after rounds. It was evident that the mission of Youth Quizzing was landing well with students."

The Bible quizzing program launched as a ministry of the Church of the Nazarene in 1964, and it has been an integral part of Nazarene youth ministries ever since.
