Diego Lopez was appointed field strategy coordinator for the Western Mediterranean Field on Wednesday, 9 November 2022. He also serves as the district superintendent in Spain.

Global Missions Director Verne Ward made the appointment upon the recommendation of Eurasia Region Director Jim Ritchie and in consultation with Jurisdictional General Superintendent David Busic.

Lopez replaces Bruce McKellips, who is retiring after serving as FSC since 2015. The appointment will be effective 1 January 2023.

Lopez was born in Colombia but moved to Spain at 12 years of age. He lived there for two years before returning to Colombia. When Lopez turned 19, he returned to Spain and began attending the Church of the Nazarene in Barcelona. There, he felt his call to ministry.

After spending a year in England to learn English, Lopez attended European Nazarene College (EuNC) to complete his certificate in Christian ministry. He went on to earn a theology and youth ministry degree from Nazarene Theological College - Manchester while being placed at Longsight Church of the Nazarene, serving there until 2019.

In 2014, he was appointed as the Eurasia Region NYI Coordinator. In 2019, he moved to Spain again, where he currently resides. He was appointed as Eurasia Region’s NDI coordinator in 2021 and then as the DS of Spain this year.

Diego and his wife, Palmira, met in Manchester and were married in 2010. They have one son, Diego Jr., who was born in early 2022.
