Ambrose University College announced Howard Wilson resigned as president of the school, effective July 8.

His resignation was accepted by the Ambrose Board of Governors, Board of Directors of The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada, and the Canadian Nazarene College Board of Directors.

Ambrose University College was co-founded by The Christian and Missionary Alliance in Canada and the Church of the Nazarene.

An Ambrose press release did not list a reason for Wilson's decision.

Wilson was appointed president of the school in 2009 after an international search. He came to Ambrose from Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, where he served as vice president for Administration. He is an ordained deacon in the Presbyterian Church. 

Riley Coulter, an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene, was appointed acting president. 

Coulter has served Ambrose as chancellor since 2008, having served as president of Canadian Nazarene College and Nazarene University College since 1990, and as co-president of Ambrose during the 2007-2008 school year.  

Prior to his election as president of CNC, Coulter was a pastor at Nazarene churches in Chilliwack, British Columbia; Regina, Saskatchewan; and Victoria, British Columbia.

Wilson’s resignation marks the third resignation of a president of a Nazarene school of higher education this year. Ron Benefiel stepped down as president of Nazarene Theological Seminary in May due to health concerns for his wife, Janet, and Ed Robinson of MidAmerica Nazarene University announced his resignation in May. 

Both NTS and MidAmerica remain in search processes for a new leader.
