New Annual Pastor’s Report released
A new Annual Pastor’s Report (APR) has been launched for the Church of the Nazarene as of 1 October 2022. Changes to the old report were made to allow for enhanced representation of the global church.
“The Board of General Superintendents is very pleased with the work that has been put into the new Annual Pastor’s Report (APR),” said Carla Sunberg, current chair of the Board. “As a global church, this new tool will provide us with an opportunity to better assess not only our statistics but the health of the church.”
The BGS approved the new APR in June of 2022, and it officially launched 1 October for the 2023 assembly year. With 50 items for the pastor or local church to complete in the report, the wording and questions have been designed for compatibility across the global Church of the Nazarene.
“Various focus groups of pastors, district superintendents, and denominational leadership reviewed the current Annual Pastor’s Report and made recommended changes,” said General Secretary Gary Hartke. “As a result, the final version will better represent the global church and provide the most helpful information from our 31,000+ local churches.”
As a pastor or local church fills out the APR, the questions are designed to integrate the seven characteristics of the Church of the Nazarene (Manual, Foreword).
- Meaningful Worship
- Theological Coherence
- Passionate Evangelism
- Intentional Discipleship
- Church Development
- Transformational Leadership
- Purposeful Compassion
“The inclusion of the seven characteristics will allow us to reflect on the condition of the church and how to improve and strengthen the church going forward,” said Sunberg.
In addition, the APR now has the option for churches to report online attendance if applicable. It also includes an open-ended question for pastors to share about their ministry.
