Venezuela church feeds homeless amidst food crisis

by | 20 Mar 2018

Jesus the Hope Church of the Nazarene in Carrizal, Venezuela, began A Handful of Love and Hope, a monthly service project to help combat the food crisis in Venezuela.

The project was announced in December when the church asked their community to bring handfuls of corn flour to make bollitos (a cooked corn dough with chopped vegetables) once a month for the homeless children, youth, and seniors in the cities of Los Teques and Carrizal.

Throughout each month, the congregation collects these handfuls of corn flour, miscellaneous ingredients, and juice to prepare the meals. At the end of the month, the church makes the bollitos and youth volunteers distribute them in streets, city markets, parks, and other areas of the cities while sharing the gospel.

This month, they were able to prepare 100 bollitos, and on 11 March used the EvangeCube to share the gospel with those they met. At least 59 people gave their lives to the Lord, including 39 children, 12 teenagers, and eight young adults. Because of these newly transformed lives, the church was asked to open three discipleship groups in Los Teques.
