Mount Vernon Nazarene University President Dan Martin announced during Saturday's commencement ceremonies that the institution received a $10 million anonymous commitment, the largest in the university's history.

The historic gift will not only support the next phase of the university's Campus Master Plan with the addition of new and enhanced facilities, but it will serve to propel the institution's mission and vision forward in innovative ways as identified in the university's Strategic Plan. Additionally, the commitment represents the desire of the benefactor to see MVNU continue its role in the development of the community and region. Most recently, the university has been committed to revitalizing and enhancing the Mount Vernon community's downtown, as evidenced by the recent renovations of 64,000 square feet of historic facilities that house MVNU's Buchwald Center for art and design and the soon to be opened, Hunter Hall, housing the university's School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

"Obviously, a commitment of this magnitude will have a transformational effect on the university and its development. I believe this gift will propel MVNU forward in accomplishing its mission and vision in new and exciting ways," Martin said. "I am profoundly moved and deeply humbled by this magnanimous and inspiring gift because I know it represents a deep commitment and belief in the value and future of the university and its ability to make a positive impact on our world through the lives of our promising students.

"It is my hope to challenge and encourage others who believe in MVNU and its vision to maximize the impact of this gift by matching it dollar for dollar," Martin continued. "Once accomplished, this infusion of support will dramatically lift the university's trajectory in achieving our strategic vision of being recognized as one of the nation's leading Christian universities through the pursuit of excellence. I believe this gift will be viewed as the impetus that ushered in a new day and brighter future for our students, community and world."

The specific details and use of the gift are in the finalization stages and will be announced in the near future.
