Justine Knight remembered
Justine Anne (Rushing) Knight, author, and wife of the late general superintendent John A. Knight Sr., passed away 22 July in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She was 83.
John Sr. and Justine were married for 50 years before his passing in 2009. John Knight Sr. served as general superintendent from 1985 to 2001, as well as a Nazarene college professor and president. He also pastored in Nashville, Tennessee.
Justine was born 4 June 1935 to O. C. and Myrtle (Haynes) Rushing in Donelson, Tennessee. She grew up in Oak Hill, West Virginia, and graduated from George Peabody College of Vanderbilt University in Nashville. She later earned a master’s degree in family relations from Oklahoma University.
She was an accomplished author, writing numerous articles for church publications, as well as the book Ready, Willing, and Available: How God Uses Ordinary People to Accomplish His Purposes (Foundry Publishing, 2000).
Justine was a resident of Bethany, Oklahoma, for 24 years and of Oklahoma City for the last 18 years. She was well-loved and known by her family and friends for her generosity and unique sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Knight, Sr., as well as her parents and two sisters, Nancy Bearden and Norma Bybee. Justine is survived by two brothers, Oliver and Dorsey Rushing, and three sisters, Rachel Archer, Edna Baker Westmoreland, and Ruby Barber. She is also survived by three children: John A Knight, Jr. and wife Melody of Virginia, Rev. Jim Knight and wife Nicky of Oklahoma, and Judy Walraven and husband Jeff of Oklahoma; seven grandchildren: Jeffrey and Justin Walraven; Chrissy, Simon, and Maximilian Knight; and Ella and Johnny Knight; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, 25 July, at the Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, located at 3925 North Asbury Avenue in Bethany, Oklahoma. Funeral will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, 26 July, at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, located at 6789 N.W. 39th Expressway in Bethany.
