The Board of General Superintendents announced the election of Klaus Arnold as director of Global Education and Clergy Development, effective 1 April 2020.

Arnold currently serves as rector of European Nazarene College, a decentralized higher education institution with learning centers in 17 countries. He is also an ordained elder who has pastored three churches in Germany.

“Dr. Arnold is an excellent choice to serve as the next Global Education and Clergy Development director,” said Fili Chambo, chair of the Board of General Superintendents. “His previous assignments, both as clergy and educator, have prepared him well for this role. Klaus is an outstanding leader and churchman who will bring to this assignment a global perspective. I am confident that the Church of the Nazarene’s commitment to higher education and clergy development will be well served by his leadership.”

Arnold follows Dan Copp, who has served as education commissioner and Clergy Development director since 2011. Copp will transition into local church ministry, serving alongside his wife, Vicki.

“In the years I have served in this role, Dr. Arnold has been a wonderful friend and valuable partner on the Eurasia Region and in assisting our efforts to resource the other five world regions,” Copp said. “As rector for European Nazarene College, he has helped lead the way by engaging EuNC, local churches, and districts in a synergistic partnership across 17 nations and four fields on the Eurasia Region.”

Klaus and his wife, Martina, have served as global missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene since 1993.

“We feel overwhelmed and grateful for the trust of the church and the Lord in our ministry,” Klaus said. “We are looking forward to working with educators and church leaders globally as we all participate in the mission of God to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ. For this, we want to give our utmost for His highest!”

Klaus holds a Bachelor of Arts from MidAmerica Nazarene University, a Master of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Philosophy in theology from the University of Manchester. He has served as an editor and translator for several Nazarene publications, including the Church of the Nazarene Manual in German.

The BGS requests prayer for Klaus and Martina as they relocate to Kansas City, Missouri, USA
