Olivet officially inaugurates Chenoweth as 13th president

Bourbonnais, Illinois

(Daily Journal, 23 October) Nearly five months after Gregg Chenoweth (pictured above) took office as president of Olivet Nazarene University, he was officially welcomed Friday morning with an inauguration ceremony at Hawkins Centennial Chapel.

Chenoweth was elected as ONU’s 13th president 13 January after a 16-month national search after the August 2019 announcement of 30-year president John Bowling’s retirement. Bowling concluded his tenure at the end of the 2020-21 academic year, and Chenoweth started June 1.

Vice President for Academic Affairs Stephen Lowe noted that, although Chenoweth is the 13th president of ONU, he is only the fourth university president in the last 72 years, “making this event rare, as well as historic.”

Missouri Church helps local families in need

Joplin, Missouri

(KSN, 23 October)--A food program is filling the gap for families in need. The Joplin First Church of the Nazarene is doing its part to end food insecurity.

“We’ve been distributing food to folks who lost their job or have some difficulty due to this covid-19,” said Pastor Jay Dick, Joplin First Church of the Nazarene.

Saturday morning’s rain didn’t stop Joplin First Church of the Nazarene from helping those in need. The church handed out more than 80 bags of food to local families.

Ireland Church looking to make community impact

Greystones, Ireland

(The Indepenent, 27 October) --Luke Carrig, who is a pastor at Nazarene Church in Greystones, Ireland presented last week to members of Greystones Municipal District. The church’s goal is to remodel and refurbish their Burnaby Lawns facility to provide a playground and other community facilities.

“I’m from Greystones and lived in the States for the past 10 years,” said Luke. “I came back to Ireland a year ago. I was raised in this church and somehow I’ve now been given the responsibility of leading it."

Canada church wins award for partnership with local schools

Surrey, British Columbia, Canada

(BCPVA) – The B.C. Principals’ & Vice-Principals’ Association (BCPVPA) has recognized two outstanding individuals and four exceptional groups who have made a substantial difference for students in local public schools. 

Legacy Church of the Nazarene is a church community in SD36 that has long been supporting Bridgeview Elementary and the larger community even during COVID-19, through food banks and hampers, school-wide field trips, and events, provision of school supplies, and afterschool activities and tutoring. They have especially made a difference in the close-knit Bridgeview community, which has a unique isolated locale and a large population of families in need.

SNU Publishes E-Book to Help Veterans

Bethany, Oklahoma

(KFVS12, 21 October)-- Southern Nazarene University announced the publication of the e-book "Life After the Military: How to Plan Your Next Step and Assimilate to Civilian Life." The book provides a comprehensive overview of the steps veterans should take before retiring from the military. 

Preparing to leave the military requires a lot of planning — more than many people realize at first. In order to address potential stumbling blocks, the e-book dives into the common challenges that service members face while readjusting to civilian life. In addition, an assimilation checklist outlines what details veterans should consider, and what actions they should take, during the three years prior to retirement.

"Retiring from the military is a significant transition, and many veterans are blindsided when they make the transition," said Mark Nadig, SNU's Veterans Education Transition Services (VETS) Center Director and an Army veteran. "We wanted this book to provide assistance and guidance that would help them to navigate what is often an uncertain time."
