Trevecca to launch new master's program in worship, leadership
Building on a long tradition of developing worship leaders, Trevecca Nazarene University will launch a new online degree program, the Master of Arts in worship and leadership.
The 36-credit hour program is designed to help mid-career worship leaders deepen their theological training, hone administrative skills, and develop practical elements of their calling, preparing them for leadership roles within their churches as well as new opportunities, such as teaching.
“We want to create a new generation of worship leaders who are theologically informed and possess the skills to lead with excellence,” said Sam Green, program director and director of Trevecca’s Center for Worship Arts.
Offered entirely online, the master’s program will guide students to develop a strong biblical and historical understanding of worship, while improving their leadership capabilities. Courses cover a wide variety of topics, from worship ministry dynamics to organizational culture and strategic thinking.
According to Green, this approach is intentional and important.
“For many years, worship education focused primarily on musicianship," he said. "Although this is significant to the success of a worship leader, there is so much more needed to effectively lead ministry in today’s church. This is why our curriculum focuses on a more holistic approach, guiding students to be the best they can be.”
Trevecca President Dan Boone is excited to announce the new program and looks forward to the impact its graduates will have on the Church.
“As a pastor who worked weekly on vibrant worship for over 25 years, I am excited to offer a creative process for building great worship experiences," he said. "The combination of creative skills and leadership skills in this online program will equip and resource worship leaders which, in turn, will have an impact on churches across the country and around the globe. This is an exciting prospect that is not only at the heart of Trevecca’s Christian heritage but also at the heart of God in whom worship begins.”
The program is expected to launch in January 2020. To learn more about the program, visit trevecca.edu/MWL.
