The 2017-21 Manual of the Church of the Nazarene is now available in Global English. The creation of an adaptation of the Manual into global English was commissioned by the Board of General Superintendents as a result of the 2017 General Assembly approval of Resolution SR-753. The steering committee for the project included Nina Gunter, Gary Hartke, Jesse Middendorf, Christian Sarmiento, Jack Stone, David Wilson, and editor Scott Stargel.

Global English is a type of simplified English. The goal of adapting the Manual to Global English is to incorporate language that is clearer and more engaging to a global audience, especially to non-native speakers of English.

The Manual in Global English is not a replacement for the official Manual of the Church of the Nazarene. Nazarenes can use the Manual in Global English with confidence, although it is not the official Manual. Likewise, it can be used as the basis for translation into other languages.

“The publication of the Manual in Global English will make an important contribution to translating into other languages, and conversations regarding the governance and polity of the Church of the Nazarene,” said General Secretary Gary Hartke. “The committee did a masterful job of preparing the text. The language is simple and yet carefully crafted to bring clarity to complex passages.”
