Judy Henske Obituary

Judith (Martin) Henske, 79, of Beaverton, Oregon, passed away 14 February 2020. She was a retired missionary, serving in Japan.

Judy was born 13 April 1941, the third child of the late Mary and Theodore “Ted” E. Martin, who was Nazarene pastor and evangelist. Ted was a member of the General Board of the Church of the Nazarene and director of the Nazarene Information Service. He was a regular speaker on the “Showers of Blessing” radio program, and, for many years, senior pastor of Nashville First Church of the Nazarene.

At age 5, Judy’s family moved to Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where her father served as pastor, and, later on, as superintendent for the Canada Central District. After her mother’s death in 1953, the family relocated to Hammond, Indiana, in response to her father’s call to pastor First Church of the Nazarene there.

From 1972 to 1986, Judy served as a missionary in Japan for the Church of the Nazarene, where she taught at Japan Christian Junior College. While on furlough, from 1978 to 1979 Judy was enrolled at Nazarene Theological Seminary.

She returned to Japan, where she met Lowell Gillon Henske, who was also serving as a missionary for the Church of the Nazarene. On 10 October 1987, Judy married Lowell at Nazarene Theological Seminary.

They served together in Japan, where Lowell was missions director during the earthquake of 1995. By 2003 they retired to Beaverton, Oregon, where they served the Lord through the Lighthouse Church of the Nazarene.
