Jamaica East District completes first mission trip to Pennsylvania

The Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene in York, Pennsylvania, USA, has sent many Work & Witness teams to the Jamaica East District over the years. This growing relationship led to the development of the EJAM program where teams would not only travel from York to Jamaica, but Jamaica to York.

The Jamaica East District sent its first Work & Witness team to assist the Stillmeadow church in its Mission Week, July 6 through 12. The six-member team served with approximately 55 youths and adults from the Stillmeadow church family.

The team worked with Habitat for Humanity to build a house for a woman and her disabled daughter. The mother currently carries her daughter up four flights of stairs to get in and out of her apartment. The team also prepared meals at the York Rescue Mission to feed the homeless and impoverished of the city.

Additionally, the team visited a home for people with cerebral palsy and helped prepare a fair. The team also cleaned lockers, desks, and chairs at a local high school. Additional activities included beautifying residences for the homebound and a city campus and the surrounding community. Each day commenced and ended with a devotional time where youth shared the Word, prayed, and fellowshipped.

The Jamaican Work & Witness team consider themselves privileged to be used by God and encourage their brothers and sisters to "Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord" (Romans 12:11), as they fulfill the mandate given, to "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit" (Matthew 29:19).
