A Work & Witness team from the Joplin District recently traveled to Fremont County, Iowa, to assist with clean-up following flooding earlier this year. The team worked on several houses, ministering both to the house owners and to the children in the communities.

The flooding began in March when the Missouri River breached its levees after heavy rain. Now, more than five months later, many families have just returned to their homes and are finding them covered in mold from the standing water. Furniture, appliances, and other possessions must be thrown out because of the mold. Although most of the structures are sound, the drywall, insulation, and flooring have been ruined by the water and mold. 

The W&W team's jobs ranged from gutting houses to hosting a carnival for neighborhood kids and praying for the flood victims. 

"This part of Iowa still has homes and families that need a lot of help and prayers," said Faithe Haeck, a member of the team. "As roads open up and families are able to get back into their homes, the amount of work to be done keeps growing."

The Church of the Nazarene will continue to respond as communities recover.
