As the COVID-19 pandemic increases in Mexico, Nazarene churches on the Southern Border District are helping migrants waiting in the city of Tapachula, Chiapas.

Through an offering collected by the Mesoamerica Region’s Nazarene Compassionate Ministries, the churches have been able to provide food care packages and cleaning supplies for migrant families of different nationalities. The people in this camp include Haitians, Africans, Cubans, and Central Americans who are stranded in this city completing immigration requirements, which can take anywhere from six months to a year.

Southern Border District Superintendent Roberto López Fajardo said the district has been ministering to these families for over a year. The group of migrants is constantly changing, as those who arrange their humanitarian visa continue their immigration journey and new families come from different parts to carry out these procedures.

"We hope, with the favor of God, in this month of June, to return to deliver one more pantry to each of these families," López said.

The pantries, or food care packages, consist of rice, beans, oil, corn flour, and milk.  They also include cleaning and hygiene items such as bleach, soap, and toilet paper.
