Church of the Nazarene celebrates 70 years in Cuba
Cuba Nazarene Theological Seminary celebrated the 70th anniversary of the Church of the Nazarene in Cuba on May 26, hosting more than 1,500 people. Guests included more than 140 pastors, dozens of Nazarenes leaders, believers from different denominations, a Work & Witness team from Oregon, USA, officials from Cuba's Office of Attention to Religious Affairs, and the children of Cuba's pioneer Nazarene missionaries, Norma Brunson, Leon Henrick, Delia Prescott, and Robert Prescott.
Those assembled celebrated with songs of praise and thanksgiving to the Lord led by a choral group. Cuba district superintendents Leonel Lopez Ortiz and Luis Batista also participated. Retired pastors and others who have been part of the history and of building the church in Cuba received special awards.
"It was of great joy to hear the voices of the children of the first American missionaries and some of their testimonies of how the Nazarene work in Cuba started," Otoniel Fernández said. "Also the pleasant visit of Sister Rosa Saenz together with her husband, Mesoamerica Regional Director Dr. Luis Carlos Saenz, who shared the Word of God. The joy could be seen on the face of each guest. It will long remain in our memories how meaningful it has been to reach our 70th anniversary. We hope that with God's help we can reach another decade where the Church of the Nazarene in Cuba goes 'by the old Path in the Way of Holiness.'"
