Mexico East District begins work in Cozumel

by | 18 Mar 2015

Cozumel, Mexico — The Mexico East District recently held a Maximum Mission event in Cozumel, an island with no Church of the Nazarene presence. The outreach included doctor visits, clothes and grocery donations, house-to-house prayer, haircuts, guitar workshops, JESUS film screenings, and more.

Around 50 young adults participated January 17 to 20 with a group of Nazarenes from Indiana, USA.

Several families were reached by the film's message. One of those families lives in front of the park where the event was conducted.

"At night we showed the JESUS film, Christian videos, and sang praises," said Edi Montejo, Nazarene Compassionate Ministries coordinator for Mexico. "We notice that a family did not come to sit on the chairs we prepared for our guests. Instead, they took out some chairs from their house and watched the film from there. When we presented the message of salvation, they accepted Jesus into their hearts."

Mexico East District Superintendent Joaquín Ocaña and the leadership team ministered to the new believers, inviting them to continue to grow in faith and knowledge of the Bible. Future discipleship meetings will be held at Ocaña's home.

"In these times, it is necessary to retake the message of Jesus Christ to all the world," Montejo said. "God is looking for workers who want to serve children, youth, and adults, all involved in the Great Commission and Great Commandment. Pray for new believers in Cozumel and Pastor Xochilt Sanchez, who will be leading the new mission of the Church of the Nazarene in the Mexico East District."

The Cameroon flag is a vertical tricolor of green, red and yellow, defaced with a five-pointed star in its center. The center stripe is thought to stand for unity: red is the colour of unity, and the star is referred to as "the star of unity." The yellow stands for the sun and also the savannas in the northern part of the country, while the green is for the forests in the southern part of Cameroon.
