She was the wife of Benjamín López, superintendent of the Southwest Latin American District.</p> <p>Sandra was born 12 April 1974 in Mexico City, Mexico, to José Emiliano Pérez Juárez and Adela Maya Garcia. After immigrating to the United States, she met Benjamin at Tucson West Nazarene Church in Arizona, when Benjamin became the youth pastor. They worked together in the youth department and fell in love, marrying two years later in 1990. </p> <p>While serving in Arizona, Sandra gave birth to two of their daughters. In 1996, they moved to Las Cruces, New Mexico, where Benjamin had been named pastor of Iglesia Del Nazareno Vida Abundante, where he still leads. In 2016 Benjamin was elected as superintendent of the South West Latin American District. Sandra served most recently as the district’s missions president.</p> <p>“Only heaven knows what a wonderful and eternal impact her years of faithful prayers have had on Ben, her family, her friends, the SW Latin American District, and the world at large,” said Bob Broadbooks, director of the USA/Canada Region. “Her signature gift of sharing God’s love to all people will never be forgotten.”</p> <p>Sandra’s favorite things to do were cook, read, and spend time in nature, but most of all, she loved spending time with her four grandchildren. She cared for people with special needs until 2014 she could no longer work due to a medical condition. Her smile was infectious. </p> <p>“When I met Sandra for the first time, I noticed her beautiful smile,” Carol Broadbooks, Bob Broadbooks’ wife. “You wanted to spend time with her. Very quickly you discovered she was a kind, loving, compassionate, Christian woman who devoted herself to Ben, her family, and God.”</p> <p>She is survived by her husband, Benjamín López; her parents, Adela and Emiliano; her brothers, Yaros and Jimmy Pérez; her daughters, Berenice Figueroa and Sandra and Estefanía López; and her beloved grandchildren, Aidan, Ozzy, Benji, and Arely.</p> <p>A private memorial service will be held on 25 January 2021.</p> <p class="MsoNormal"><p></p></p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-publish-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field-news-publish-date field__item"><time datetime="2021-01-22T12:00:00Z">22 Jan, 2021</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-comments field--type-facebook-comments field--label-hidden field-news-comments field__item"><div id="fb-root"></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, "script", "facebook-jssdk"));</script> <div class="fb-comments fb-comments-fluid" data-href="https://nazarene.org/rss.xml" data-num-posts="15" data-width="620" data-colorscheme="light"></div></div> <div class="field field--name-field-editor-pick field--type-boolean field--label-above field-editor-pick"> <div class="field__label">Editor Pick</div> <div class="field__item">On</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field-news-media field__item"><article> <div class="blazy field field--name-field-media-image field--type-image field--label-visually_hidden field-media-image" data-blazy=""> <div class="field__label visually-hidden">Image</div> <div class="field__item"> <div style="padding-bottom: 63.04%" class="media media--blazy media--loading media--ratio media--ratio--fluid media--image"> <img height="660" width="1047" class="b-lazy media__image media__element" data-src="/sites/default/files/styles/original_image/public/2021-01/Sandra%20Lopez.png?itok=qH3CirUz" alt="Sandra Lopez" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> </div> </article> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above field-news-tags"> <div class="field__label">Tags</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=63&amp;tag%5B1%5D=63&amp;sort_by=created">USA/Canada</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=321&amp;tag%5B1%5D=321&amp;sort_by=created">New Mexico</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=68&amp;tag%5B1%5D=68&amp;sort_by=created">Passings</a></div> </div> </div> Fri, 22 Jan 2021 17:28:29 +0000 dlsperry94 5464 at https://nazarene.org In Memoriam https://nazarene.org/article/memoriam-22-january-2021 <h2>In Memoriam</h2> <span><span lang="" about="/user/181" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">dlsperry94</span></span> <span>Fri, 01/22/2021 - 16:17</span> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field-news-author field__item">Nazarene News Staff</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-popular field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field-news-popular field__item">No</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field-news-body field__item"><p>The following is a weekly listing of Nazarene ministers and leaders who recently went home to be with the Lord. Getson initially thought of online video services as a temporary measure. However, the number of people tuning in was higher than their in-person attendance, and she found many people who were uninterested or unable to attend a normal brick and mortar location for Sunday service.</p> <p>“We began to dive into this world of church online and what it means,” Getson said. “[We realized] that there are disciples who will never go into our church that are listening online.” </p> <p>That realization caused Getson to consider her strategy for online services.</p> <p>“Is it just so that somebody heard your sermon or is there a discipleship plan?” she wondered. “Is there a place for them to grow from that?”</p> <p>Getson feels that creating a church this way is emphasizing the “Go” in Jesus’ command to “Go and make disciples.”</p> <p>“The difference between ‘we’re going to put our church online’ and ‘we want to be a church online’ hinges on the ‘go,’” Getson said. “We want to make it a church, a community where relationships are built, where discipleship happens, that literally goes where people are that need Jesus, that doesn’t require them to come. It’s a key shift in thinking.”</p> <p>Mike Wheeler is the pastor of Christ Agape Collective based in Edwardsville, Kansas. Recently, they registered as a church located “online.” Wheeler has found that people love the accessibility of the format. </p> <p>“We have a pretty consistent number that actually sits there and watches us live,” Wheeler said. “But we get a phenomenal number of views, hundreds throughout the week. I talk to people and they love the fact that while they may not be available Sunday morning for some reason, they can watch Monday morning at 5 a.m.”</p> <p>He noted that he’s connected with many people who say they would never feel comfortable in a traditional church setting but have been exploring the online teachings and even accepting Christ as their Savior.</p> <p>“We are reaching people that are hungry to learn more and are actually discipling people,” Wheeler said. “We’ve had a few couples from the LGBTQ community that get on and they’re watching us, asking questions, and they’ve made decisions for Christ. We’re seeing progression, and it’s just people that have felt like they wouldn’t be welcome in a brick-and-mortar church. Some of them may be partiers or have fallen away for the Lord, and the online church is giving them an availability and confidence that they can start coming back.”</p> <p>Both Wheeler and Getson will be the first to admit that they’re learning and adapting on the fly. Wheeler joked that there aren’t a lot of textbooks about what works and what to do next. Ultimately, both pastors want to confirm that the Church can have a home online and that this format may be a big part of the future of the Church.</p> <p>“Understanding digital ministry is going to be key for us going forward, and I don’t think there is any question about it,” Getson said. “It is key for churches to understand we are uniquely set up to expand and plant new churches and for us to be able to see that online is a place to plant a church.”</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-publish-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field-news-publish-date field__item"><time datetime="2021-01-22T12:00:00Z">22 Jan, 2021</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-comments field--type-facebook-comments field--label-hidden field-news-comments field__item"><div id="fb-root"></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, "script", "facebook-jssdk"));</script> <div class="fb-comments fb-comments-fluid" data-href="https://nazarene.org/rss.xml" data-num-posts="15" data-width="620" data-colorscheme="light"></div></div> <div class="field field--name-field-editor-pick field--type-boolean field--label-above field-editor-pick"> <div class="field__label">Editor Pick</div> <div class="field__item">On</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field-news-media field__item"><article> <div class="blazy field field--name-field-media-image field--type-image field--label-visually_hidden field-media-image" data-blazy=""> <div class="field__label visually-hidden">Image</div> <div class="field__item"> <div style="padding-bottom: 53.33%" class="media media--blazy media--loading media--ratio media--ratio--fluid media--image"> <img height="400" width="750" class="b-lazy media__image media__element" data-src="/sites/default/files/styles/original_image/public/2021-01/Jodi%20Getson%20photo%20copy.jpg?itok=ounY252L" alt="Jodi Getson Studio" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> </div> <div> <div class="visually-hidden">Caption</div> <div class="field-media-image-caption"><p>Pastor Jodi Getson records sermon for Oxford Naz Online in their studio</p> </div> </div> </article> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above field-news-tags"> <div class="field__label">Tags</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=63&amp;tag%5B1%5D=63&amp;sort_by=created">USA/Canada</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=334&amp;tag%5B1%5D=334&amp;sort_by=created">Canada</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=620&amp;tag%5B1%5D=620&amp;sort_by=created">Nova Scotia</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=103&amp;tag%5B1%5D=103&amp;sort_by=created">Kansas</a></div> </div> </div> Fri, 22 Jan 2021 14:45:35 +0000 dlsperry94 5462 at https://nazarene.org Remembering Betty Faul https://nazarene.org/article/remembering-betty-faul <h2>Remembering Betty Faul </h2> <span><span lang="" about="/user/181" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">dlsperry94</span></span> <span>Thu, 01/21/2021 - 19:31</span> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field-news-author field__item">Nazarene News Staff</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-popular field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field-news-popular field__item">No</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field-news-body field__item"><p>Betty Faul, 94, of Flint, Michigan, passed away 13 January 2021. She was a missionary, serving in the Caribbean for over 38 years with her husband, Larry Faul.</p> <p>Betty Fay Foraker was born 11 June 1926 in Edmond, Oklahoma, where she lived until she was 11. Her parents moved the family to Grand Junction, Colorado, where a Nazarene family brought her to church for the first time. She was saved at the age of 14, and shortly after, she received her call to the mission field. </p> <p>She met Larry in January of 1945 after moving to Nampa to be with her older sister, whose husband was drafted to serve in World War II. The sisters attended a basketball game at Northwest Nazarene College and Larry, who was working the concession stand, offered to walk them home after Betty’s red hair caught his attention. The rest is history, and Betty and Larry were married in August of that year.</p> <p>Larry graduated from NNC in 1946. He accepted his first pastoral assignment the next year in South Dakota. The couple served as pastors in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Missouri before applying to the General Board for a missionary assignment, both having felt a call to missions work at a young age. </p> <p>They were first assigned to Barbados in 1952, and Larry served as the district superintendent. The couple served there for 17 years. After a brief stop in Guyana in 1969, they moved to Trinidad for four years before becoming superintendent of the newly created Antigua District. They served in Antigua until 1984 and spent their final six years as missionaries in Jamaica.</p> <p>While Larry helped the ministers of Barbados, Betty was the secretary and accountant for the missionaries and the district. She also helped run an after-school Bible program for the children in their community. According to her family, children and youth were her passion. After youth group on Wednesday nights, she would host the teens at her house for popcorn and games. She would also help organize large programs for their church, including Harvest and Christmas programs. </p> <p>Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Larry, who passed away in 2016, and three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her three children, Sharon Todd, Judith Weir, and Linda Rouse; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren, and two sisters.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-publish-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field-news-publish-date field__item"><time datetime="2021-01-21T12:00:00Z">21 Jan, 2021</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-comments field--type-facebook-comments field--label-hidden field-news-comments field__item"><div id="fb-root"></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, "script", "facebook-jssdk"));</script> <div class="fb-comments fb-comments-fluid" data-href="https://nazarene.org/rss.xml" data-num-posts="15" data-width="620" data-colorscheme="light"></div></div> <div class="field field--name-field-editor-pick field--type-boolean field--label-above field-editor-pick"> <div class="field__label">Editor Pick</div> <div class="field__item">On</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field-news-media field__item"><article> <div class="blazy field field--name-field-media-image field--type-image field--label-visually_hidden field-media-image" data-blazy=""> <div class="field__label visually-hidden">Image</div> <div class="field__item"> <div style="padding-bottom: 53.36%" class="media media--blazy media--loading media--ratio media--ratio--fluid media--image"> <img height="834" width="1563" class="b-lazy media__image media__element" data-src="/sites/default/files/styles/original_image/public/2021-01/Betty%20Faul%20obit%20photo.jpg?itok=LayEYsws" alt="Betty Faul" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> </div> </article> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above field-news-tags"> <div class="field__label">Tags</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=58&amp;tag%5B1%5D=58&amp;sort_by=created">Mesoamerica Region</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=150&amp;tag%5B1%5D=150&amp;sort_by=created">Missions</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=500&amp;tag%5B1%5D=500&amp;sort_by=created">Antigua</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=267&amp;tag%5B1%5D=267&amp;sort_by=created">Barbados</a></div> </div> </div> Thu, 21 Jan 2021 19:31:10 +0000 dlsperry94 5461 at https://nazarene.org Southern Cone NTS honors 2020 graduates https://nazarene.org/article/southern-cone-nts-honors-2020-graduates <h2>Southern Cone NTS honors 2020 graduates</h2> <span><span lang="" about="/user/181" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">dlsperry94</span></span> <span>Thu, 01/21/2021 - 18:13</span> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field-news-author field__item">South Cone Nazarene Theological Seminary</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-popular field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field-news-popular field__item">No</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field-news-body field__item"><p>Nazarene Theological Seminary of the Southern Cone held a graduation for the Class of 2020 with a spirit of celebration and thanksgiving to God. </p> <p>The ceremony was held on 12 December 2020. The program will provide adult students with a pathway to earn a bachelor’s degree and creates a model that redefines the learning experience by using best-in-class technology to engage students online. </p> <p>Your Way<i> </i>is an asynchronous program, meaning students can learn at their own pace. Students are able to read and consume the course material first, then enter an online community to discuss the content with classmates and faculty to expand their knowledge and deepen understanding. Course content is created ahead of time, allowing Olivet’s faculty to educate at scale. </p> <p>“Through Your Way, general education courses are tuition-free so that adult students from across the nation have equitable access to college,” said Ryan Spittal, vice president for Olivet’s ONU Global division, which serves adult students. “Since every student has to take general education courses before taking the courses specific to their degree program, this tuition-free general education initiative flattens barriers and bends the cost curve, allowing students to take courses with no up-front costs.”</p> <p>The courses have also been reimagined. The new learning experience is designed to provide bite-sized lessons with knowledge-check quizzes, tests that have immediate feedback, learning activities that foster student engagement, and gamification badges earned for every module of content to keep people motivated. </p> <p>Students have unlimited re-takes for homework and tests, ensuring that these assessments promote understanding without negatively affecting the students’ grade in the course. That means they don’t have to spend their time worrying about their success and can concentrate fully on learning and understanding the course content by engaging with faculty and fellow students.</p> <p>“With 15 years in the online market, Olivet knows that compelling content is important, but we feel that facilitating connection in an online environment is key to effective education,” Spittal said. “It is more important now than ever before, especially in this social-distancing culture, to provide a quality education and moment-making connections in an online experience that reflects our supportive on-campus ethos.”</p> <p>More information on Your Way can be found at <a href="https://online.olivet.edu/yourway" target="_blank">online.olivet.edu/yourway</a>.</p> <p>--<a href="https://olivet.edu" target="_blank">Olivet Nazarene University</a></p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-publish-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field-news-publish-date field__item"><time datetime="2021-01-21T12:00:00Z">21 Jan, 2021</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-comments field--type-facebook-comments field--label-hidden field-news-comments field__item"><div id="fb-root"></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, "script", "facebook-jssdk"));</script> <div class="fb-comments fb-comments-fluid" data-href="https://nazarene.org/rss.xml" data-num-posts="15" data-width="620" data-colorscheme="light"></div></div> <div class="field field--name-field-editor-pick field--type-boolean field--label-above field-editor-pick"> <div class="field__label">Editor Pick</div> <div class="field__item">Off</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field-news-media field__item"><article> <div class="blazy field field--name-field-media-image field--type-image field--label-visually_hidden field-media-image" data-blazy=""> <div class="field__label visually-hidden">Image</div> <div class="field__item"> <div style="padding-bottom: 53.33%" class="media media--blazy media--loading media--ratio media--ratio--fluid media--image"> <img height="400" width="750" class="b-lazy media__image media__element" data-src="/sites/default/files/styles/original_image/public/2021-01/olivet%20online%20courses.jpg?itok=N0ZiuL2t" alt="Olivet online courses" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> </div> </article> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above field-news-tags"> <div class="field__label">Tags</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=29&amp;tag%5B1%5D=29&amp;sort_by=created">Collegiate</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=83&amp;tag%5B1%5D=83&amp;sort_by=created">ONU</a></div> </div> </div> Thu, 21 Jan 2021 17:55:15 +0000 dlsperry94 5459 at https://nazarene.org Mesoamerica Region shares gospel through Missions without Limits https://nazarene.org/article/mesoamerica-region-shares-gospel-through-missions-without-limits <h2>Mesoamerica Region shares gospel through Missions without Limits</h2> <span><span lang="" about="/user/181" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">dlsperry94</span></span> <span>Thu, 01/21/2021 - 16:13</span> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field-news-author field__item">Church of the Nazarene Mesoamerica Region</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-popular field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field-news-popular field__item">No</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field-news-body field__item"><p>Nearly 250 people gathered in over 40 locations across 10 countries on the Mesoamerica Region to share the gospel in creative ways through the Missions without Limits project.</p> <p>Missions without Limits is a short-term project that emerged out of a need to minister to the local community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This missionary opportunity consisted of groups of up to 10 missionary volunteers who served their communities for seven days while following all pertinent health and safety precautions. </p> <p>During the weeks of 14-20 December 2020 and 4-10 January 2021, people of all ages gathered across the region. Each local group began by praying and meeting the needs of their neighbors. In some places, this was done virtually by the government of each country. </p> <p>The message of the gospel was shared through performers telling Bible stories, Work &amp; Witness Days, nutrition and recycling workshops, sports competitions, medical and cleaning teams, Bible schools, and the distribution of hygiene kits, school supplies, food, and clothing, among other things.</p> <p>“The young people were courageous in responsibly abiding by all health and safety measures while continuing to share the gospel,” said Mitzi Villegas, communications coordinator for Missions without Limits. “It’s exciting to see how small groups and local ministries are led by the Holy Spirit to transform their communities adapted into a context of global health care!”</p> <p>The project emerged as a way of thinking about missions in a “glocal” way. While the teams serve locally, they carried out their work with an understanding of the global impact of the kingdom of God. At the same time, the churches made connections with people from other countries and cultures since the project is being developed simultaneously in various areas in the region.</p> <p>“My experience in virtual Missions without Limits was beautiful and surprising because I knew a different way of doing missions,” said Narda Paz, a volunteer who served with the Gulf and Oaxaca districts of Mexico. “It filled me with joy to see that people I care about were able to hear the message of salvation on video calls and receive it in their hearts. Also, thank God we were able to work with the NCM in the Oaxaca District to give shoes to the windshield wipers vendors at the traffic lights. I hope all these activities can inspire other brothers and sisters to share the love and hope we have in God in creative ways and thus continue to expand the kingdom of God.”</p> <p>Mitzi Villegas said that Missions without Limits transformed both the communities and the volunteer missionaries. This experience was characterized by what was new: new calls, new ministries, new believers who need to be discipled, new churches planted, and a new way of thinking about missions.</p> <p>“Let us continue to dream of ways to continue serving our communities,” Villegas said. “Their love does not end, their compassion does not run out, and their mission has no limits!”</p> <p>--<a href="mesoamericaregion.org" target="_blank">Church of the Nazarene Mesoamerica</a></p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-publish-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field-news-publish-date field__item"><time datetime="2021-01-21T12:00:00Z">21 Jan, 2021</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-comments field--type-facebook-comments field--label-hidden field-news-comments field__item"><div id="fb-root"></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, "script", "facebook-jssdk"));</script> <div class="fb-comments fb-comments-fluid" data-href="https://nazarene.org/rss.xml" data-num-posts="15" data-width="620" data-colorscheme="light"></div></div> <div class="field field--name-field-editor-pick field--type-boolean field--label-above field-editor-pick"> <div class="field__label">Editor Pick</div> <div class="field__item">On</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field-news-media field__item"><article> <div class="blazy field field--name-field-media-image field--type-image field--label-visually_hidden field-media-image" data-blazy=""> <div class="field__label visually-hidden">Image</div> <div class="field__item"> <div style="padding-bottom: 53.33%" class="media media--blazy media--loading media--ratio media--ratio--fluid media--image"> <img height="400" width="750" class="b-lazy media__image media__element" data-src="/sites/default/files/styles/original_image/public/2021-01/Missions%20without%20limits%20copy.jpg?itok=kasRDmPp" alt="Missions Without Limits" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> </div> </article> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above field-news-tags"> <div class="field__label">Tags</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=58&amp;tag%5B1%5D=58&amp;sort_by=created">Mesoamerica Region</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=195&amp;tag%5B1%5D=195&amp;sort_by=created">Coronavirus</a></div> </div> </div> Thu, 21 Jan 2021 16:13:40 +0000 dlsperry94 5458 at https://nazarene.org SENDAS creates Spanish theological resource site for pastors https://nazarene.org/article/sendas-creates-spanish-theological-resource-site-pastors <h2>SENDAS creates Spanish theological resource site for pastors</h2> <span><span lang="" about="/user/181" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">dlsperry94</span></span> <span>Thu, 01/21/2021 - 15:48</span> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field-news-author field__item">Seminario Nazareno de las Americas</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-popular field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field-news-popular field__item">No</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field-news-body field__item"><p>Seminario Nazareno de las Americas (SENDAS) launched a new website, Teología Hoy (Theology Today), to resource pastors with theological materials in Spanish. </p> <p>“It is a publication of Arminian-Wesleyan theological and pastoral reflection for the Hispanic world, which we are convinced will make a difference in our lives and in the communities we serve,” said Rubén Fernández, SENDAS rector.</p> <p>The site’s launch is part of the seminary’s 50th anniversary celebration. The COVID-19 pandemic made it more dangerous to carry on as usual, so the church altered its plans.</p> <p>“Instead of having the senior citizens come to them, they brought the luncheon to them,” said Pastor Augustus Andrews.</p> <p>The food baskets contained rice, sugar, flour, potatoes, onions, garlic, oil, and peas, among other items they may need. The items were all donated by members of the congregation.</p> <p>“We are a mission-driven church,” Andrews said. “Please continue to partner with us in prayer as we continue to do the will of God.”</p> <p>Traditionally, the luncheon is a celebration of the church’s elders. The youth would put on a concert and then give the elders a chance to share their own poems or special songs. Andrews said there are special prizes for people who have attended the longest and an award given for the oldest person in attendance.</p> <p>“The leadership team decided that because of their contributions to the community, and in some instances the lives of the members of the church, that we would celebrate them,” Andrews said. “It’s always a joy to see their smiling faces.”</p> <p>--<a href="mesoamericaregion.org" target="_blank">Church of the Nazarene Mesoamerica Region</a></p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-publish-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field-news-publish-date field__item"><time datetime="2021-01-15T12:00:00Z">15 Jan, 2021</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-comments field--type-facebook-comments field--label-hidden field-news-comments field__item"><div id="fb-root"></div> <script>(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) {return;} js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = "//connect.facebook.net/en_GB/all.js#xfbml=1"; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs); }(document, "script", "facebook-jssdk"));</script> <div class="fb-comments fb-comments-fluid" data-href="https://nazarene.org/rss.xml" data-num-posts="15" data-width="620" data-colorscheme="light"></div></div> <div class="field field--name-field-editor-pick field--type-boolean field--label-above field-editor-pick"> <div class="field__label">Editor Pick</div> <div class="field__item">On</div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field-news-media field__item"><article> <div class="blazy field field--name-field-media-image field--type-image field--label-visually_hidden field-media-image" data-blazy=""> <div class="field__label visually-hidden">Image</div> <div class="field__item"> <div style="padding-bottom: 53.33%" class="media media--blazy media--loading media--ratio media--ratio--fluid media--image"> <img height="400" width="750" class="b-lazy media__image media__element" data-src="/sites/default/files/styles/original_image/public/2021-01/guyana.jpg?itok=72aeKDLj" alt="Guyana" src="data:image/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAIAAAAAAAP///yH5BAEAAAAALAAAAAABAAEAAAIBRAA7" typeof="foaf:Image" /> </div> </div> </div> </article> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-above field-news-tags"> <div class="field__label">Tags</div> <div class="field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=58&amp;tag%5B1%5D=58&amp;sort_by=created">Mesoamerica Region</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=385&amp;tag%5B1%5D=385&amp;sort_by=created">Guyana</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/all-news?keywords=&amp;tag%5B0%5D=195&amp;tag%5B1%5D=195&amp;sort_by=created">Coronavirus</a></div> </div> </div> Fri, 15 Jan 2021 16:01:50 +0000 dlsperry94 5454 at https://nazarene.org South Carolina church raises money for Bibles in Cambodia https://nazarene.org/article/south-carolina-church-raises-money-bibles-cambodia <h2>South Carolina church raises money for Bibles in Cambodia</h2> <span><span lang="" about="/user/181" typeof="schema:Person" property="schema:name" datatype="">dlsperry94</span></span> <span>Fri, 01/15/2021 - 15:51</span> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field-news-author field__item">Nazarene News Staff</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-popular field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field-news-popular field__item">No</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field-news-body field__item"><p>West Columbia Central Church of the Nazarene in South Carolina was inspired to raise money to purchase 440 Bibles for Cambodia after God used a missionary’s story to prompt the church to get involved.</p> <p>In late October, the church held a missions service where they watched a video about a missionary in Cambodia. The missionary tells <a href="https://www.nazarene.org/article/cambodia-churches-receive-new-bibles" target="_blank">a story about a security guard</a> who was happy to receive a Bible so he could return to his village and share about Jesus.</p> <p>Victoria Walker, who is the wife of Lead Pastor Brent Walker, felt a nudge from the Holy Spirit during the video to get involved. </p> <p>“On this night, the minute I heard that they only had 300 Bibles and how happy the security guard was to get one, I heard God say ‘That’s what I want you to do…raise the money to buy Bibles in Cambodia,’” Victoria said. </p> <p>Unfortunately, COVID-19 restrictions had dampened the turnout for the missions service, which disappointed the church’s missions president. That disappointment sparked Victoria to get the whole church involved.</p> <p>As she searched for ways to raise money, she found enough household items to hold a small yard sale. She then challenged the rest of the church to do the same, and they delivered.</p> <p>Members of West Columbia Central brought prized guitars, a 70-inch TV with speakers, fine china, furniture, and more, filling up an entire room with plenty of items. Those who didn’t have time to find items to donate pitched in through checks. In total, West Columbia Central raised $2,200 for Bibles in Cambodia, which amounts to 440 Bibles.</p> <p>Both Brent and Victoria characterized their church body as a very giving church.</p> <p>“Anytime we have asked for the church to step up to the plate, they have,” Victoria said. “From food drives and blessing boxes, they step up. I guess I was just kind of surprised because it was kind of my dream and not theirs.
