Sharing God's big love in small, every day moments

Casey serves as a missionary with the Church of the Nazarene in Sighisoara, Romania. Growing up in the Nazarene church, Casey was exposed to the missions mindset at an early age. She graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Social Work, and then went on to receive her Master of Social Work from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2011. Casey worked for 2.5 years as a School Social Worker in a rural area near her hometown. Then, after serving as a teen camp counselor for two summers in a row, Casey knew God was calling her to missions.

In March 2015, Casey came to Romania for the first time. Since then, she has worked within multiple programs at Veritas, a local non-governmental organization that serves the community of Sighisoara through social and educational programs, as well as children’s ministries of the Church of the Nazarene.

As a social worker, Casey has worked in two of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries’ child development centers, at Veritas and in the nearby village of Tigmandru. Both of these centers use a holistic approach in serving marginalized Roma children and their families by providing for their spiritual, emotional, physical, intellectual, and relational needs. Casey’s involvement in both programs has ranged from leading Bible stories, crafts and games to consulting with Romanian program staff on best practice methods for working with children.

Casey also co-leads an educational program called It Takes Courage, which focuses on building positive character in local high school students. This program provides an opportunity for teens to develop their English skills while talking about topics of significance: creating a vision for life, communicating effectively, building healthy relationships, making wise decisions, etc. Casey has worked with the Romanian program leader to further develop a service component to the program, which has allowed the teens to serve their local community as part of the program.

Additionally, Casey supervises American university students who come to Sighisoara through the Romanian Studies Program to do a social work practicum. Students complete their social work practicums within the context of Veritas (local non-profit organization) and at the child development center in the village of Tigmandru. As their supervisor, Casey helps them adjust to living and serving in a new culture, teaches a weekly social work seminar class, meets individually with them for supervision, exposes them to various cultural experiences (movies, books, field trips, etc.), and so much more. Casey works with the students to further develop their social work practice skills by working with children, teens, adults with disabilities, and elderly clients.

Please keep Casey and her work in Romania in your prayers.
