I must have heard the Gospel over 100 times before I received it. Between Sunday school, caravans, church, and my parents I probably heard about Jesus well over 100 times before he became my savior. My wife also had ample opportunities to hear about Jesus before she lived out her faith. How many times were you told about Jesus before you believed?
What if I told you that even today, in 2021, there are still entire people groups and villages who have yet to hear the Gospel even once? Southeast Asia is home to hundreds of unreached peoples totaling 137 million people. This is comparable to the population of the USA located west of the Mississippi.
We serve the Church of the Nazarene in the Southeast Asia region. We serve our 8 districts here and help pioneer new areas in mainland Southeast Asia. I am the Regional Jesus Film coordinator as well as the coordinator for New Areas, where there is not yet established churches. We help establish local evangelism teams that bring the Gospel into these unreached areas as well as sending in foreign missionaries so people have an opportunity to hear about Jesus.
The Unreached are still unreached because they have no opportunity to hear the Gospel. They’ve grown up Buddhist, Muslim, Animist or Atheist in a community that has the same world view and has never heard of any other option.
The Church of the Nazarene has a network of 300 churches spread across Southeast Asia and we are working diligently to nearly double those numbers in the next 5 years. We have pastors, local evangelists, and foreign missionaries all working together to reach the unreached.
No one should live their entire lives without getting to hear about what Jesus has done for them. We believe that every person should have the opportunity to hear the Gospel. With 137 million people who still haven’t heard, the task is huge. We need more laborers for this harvest field.
You can get involved with ministry in Southeast Asia by praying, giving financially, or going and serving. If you would like to be involved in any of these ways, please contact us and we would be happy to tell you more.
Everyone should have an opportunity to hear the Gospel.
