Rusty & Lauren are Global Missionaries for the Church of the Nazarene in Kenya. They were appointed in 2020.

Rusty & Lauren grew up in Clovis, NM and are High School sweethearts and have been married since 2002. Rusty attended Point Loma Nazarene University (B.A. Bible & Christian Ministries, 2002), Nazarene Theological Seminary (M.Div. 2005), and completed a Ph.D. at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary (Theology & Ethics 2011) with additional doctoral work done at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. Rusty is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene and has served as a full-time Lead Pastor since 2011. Most recently he served as Lead Pastor of Christ Community Church of the Nazarene in Concord, CA (2017-2020). He has also served as an adjunct professor of Theology at several different institutions including Northwest Nazarene University, Seattle Pacific University, and Nazarene Theological Seminary. Rusty has published several books in addition to numerous chapters, articles, book reviews, and presentations.

Lauren attended Point Loma Nazarene University and Mid-America Nazarene University (2004) and is almost through with a M.A. in Learning Design & Technology from the University of Colorado at Denver. She has taught in Title I elementary school in Kansas, Illinois, and Arkansas. Over the past 9 years, while staying at home and caring for the children, Lauren has organized and led several Mom’s groups and has served as a volunteer Children’s Ministry Leader. She also ran a successful home business selling children’s books.

Rusty will be serving as a Professor of Theology at Africa Nazarene University and helping provide oversight to their Doctoral programs. In addition to working with Global Missions, Lauren will be a full-time primary school teacher at the West Nairobi School, where all three children will also be attending.

Lauren and Rusty have three children, Lily (July 18), Rowan (January 13), and Daisy (July 31). Lily and Rowan both love school and call reading their favorite subject. Daisy isn’t quite ready for school yet, but believes she can conquer anything! The three are ready for safari, with their favorite animals being giraffes, hippos, and elephants, respectively.

Throughout their time in ministry Rusty and Lauren have wrestled with a call to missional service, and to Africa in particular. They are excited to finally go and to serve the students of ANU, WNS, the East Africa Region and to build up future global leaders for both the Church and the World.
