L’Universit\u00e9 nazar\u00e9enne du sud a inaugur\u00e9 J. Keith Newman en tant que  15e pr\u00e9sident de l’universit\u00e9  le 9 novembre avec une foule d’invit\u00e9s estim\u00e9s et honor\u00e9s pr\u00e9sents pour la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie historique.<\/p>\n

Newman, qui a assum\u00e9 le bureau le 1 ao\u00fbt, a \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9lu pr\u00e9sident<\/a> par le Conseil des administrateurs de l’universit\u00e9 en mars de cette ann\u00e9e. Son \u00e9lection a r\u00e9sult\u00e9 de la retraite de Loren P. Gresham, qui a servi de pr\u00e9sident pendant 28 ans  et est le pr\u00e9sident qui a servi le plus longtemps dans l’histoire de l’universit\u00e9. <\/p>\n

Dans une c\u00e9r\u00e9monie riche en symbolisme, l’emphase de Newman sur l’engagement des \u00e9tudiants a \u00e9t\u00e9 rendue \u00e9vidente par leur participation dans des domaines cl\u00e9s tout au long du service. Le pr\u00e9sident \u00e9m\u00e9rite Gres ham a livr\u00e9 le discours inaugural,  intitul\u00e9 \u00ab Garder la foi avec nos fondateurs \u00bb et la c\u00e9r\u00e9monie d’investiture comportait une pr\u00e9sentation sp\u00e9ciale par le commissaire de l’\u00e9ducation nazar\u00e9enne Dan Copp et une pri\u00e8re de d\u00e9dicace par le surintendant g\u00e9n\u00e9ral Gustavo A. Crocker.<\/p>\n

Dans sa r\u00e9ponse pr\u00e9sidentielle, Newman a parl\u00e9 de l’histoire et de la nature de la devise de l’universit\u00e9 : Caract\u00e8re – Culture – Christ.  Il a appel\u00e9 une continuation de la vision et de la mission de Raffiner le caract\u00e8re, Cr\u00e9er la culture et Servir le Christ. Il a ensuite d\u00e9fi\u00e9 l’universit\u00e9 \u00e0 \u00eatre une communaut\u00e9 qui r\u00e9pond \u00e0 l’invitation de J\u00e9sus, qui a dit : \u00ab Si quelqu’un veut \u00eatre premier, il doit \u00eatre le tr\u00e8s dernier et le serviteur de tous \u00bb, Marc 9 : 35. Il a conclu que \u00ab vivre dernier \u00bb est ce que J\u00e9sus nous appelait \u00e0 faire et a dit : Mon engagement \u00e0 vous en tant que pr\u00e9sident est de choisir de \u00ab vivre dernier \u00bb et j’invite la communaut\u00e9 SNU \u00e0 me rejoindre dans ce voyage. \u00ab\u00a0<\/p>\n

Avant son \u00e9lection, Newman a servi l’Universit\u00e9 Indiana Wesleyan en tant que chancelier d’ IWU-Marion. Son affectation initiale \u00e0 IWU \u00e9tait vice-pr\u00e9sident des relations universitaires. Newman a gagn\u00e9 un baccalaur\u00e9at en arts de l’Universit\u00e9 baptiste de Houston, une ma\u00eetrise en minist\u00e8re de SNU  et un Doctorat en \u00e9ducation de l’Universit\u00e9 Spalding avec une concentration en leadership.<\/p>\n

Newman a  pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment servi de vice-pr\u00e9sident des relations universitaires \u00e0 l’Universit\u00e9 Mount Vernon nazar\u00e9enne, qui a suivi 17 ans dans le minist\u00e8re pastoral en Arkansas, au Texas et en Californie. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 ordonn\u00e9 en tant qu’ancien dans l’\u00c9glise du Nazar\u00e9en en 1989 dans le district de l’Arkansas nord. Lui et sa femme, Carolyn, ont deux enfants adultes et une petite-fille.<\/p>\n
