John Cunningham, global missionary with the Church of the Nazarene, is on administrative assignment to the Jesus Film Harvest Partners office in Olathe, Kansas.

John received a B.A. degree in sociology from Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts, in 1976, and the M.Div. degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in 1980. Following his seminary training, he pastored the Church of the Nazarene in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, for four years.

In 1984, John, and his wife, Sandy, were appointed to the Republic of Ciskei [SIS-sky] with their two daughters where John served as the district superintendent until the position was turned over to national leadership. He also led the efforts to pioneer the new work in the Republic of Transkei [TRANS-sky] and the Kingdom of Lesotho [lay-SOO-too]. He served as a mission director in the South Field area of southern Africa, and then was assigned to pioneer the work in the Republic of Madagascar where he served as mission coordinator. He is co-author of the ’94-’95 missionary reading book, Madagascar: Island at the end of the World.

In 1998, John was appointed field strategy coordinator of the East Field on the Africa Region. In this responsibility, he gave oversight and direction to the mission work of the Church of the Nazarene in nine countries. He also served as field strategy coordinator for the three eastern countries of the Africa French Equatorial Field.

In 2000, John began his ministry in the candidate office of World Mission. He was responsible for career missionary recruiting and promotion, as well as processing of missionary candidates.

He began his current assignment with Jesus Film Harvest Partners in 2007, focusing on projects in areas of evangelism, church planting, and discipleship, as well as developing partnerships with other organizations. In 2010 he was appointed National Ambassador Coordinator for the United States. In this role he is responsible for developing a network of volunteer regional, district and local church Ambassadors for the JESUS Film Harvest Partners.

Going Where the Church is Not Yet

Today there are over 4.3 billion people who live in areas where there is little to no gospel witness. 4.3 billion people who have not heard the message of the gospel, who have never heard the name of Jesus. We believe that everyone deserves to hear. God continues to call the Church of the Nazarene to spread the message of the gospel, to preach holiness, and to bring good news to the poor all over the world. The task is enormous; far too big for anyone to do alone, but together we can go where the church is not yet and see people, communities, and nations transformed.
