At the 2005 General Assembly, delegates approved resolution G.A. 310, which recommended the merger of the USA/Canada Mission/Evangelism and World Mission departments. Delegates chose to refer this matter to the Board of General Superintendents, the Executive Committee of the General Board, and to the full General Board for response and implementation.
The Board of General Superintendents has engaged a wide array of inputs from the Church of the Nazarene, including lay people, clergy, and institutional representatives. The process has involved the exploration of numerous options, listening to various perspectives, and seeking the will of God in intentional prayer and reflection.
During the 85th Session of the General Board, just completed, board members received a proposal that G.A. 310 be implemented based on the research provided the Executive Committee of the General Board working with the Board of General Superintendents.
Flavio Valvasourra of Campinas, Brazil, was elected to serve as a non-North American representative of the General Board to this process.
The Board of General Superintendents has referred to this as the process of “Revisioning Nazarene Headquarters (Global Ministry Center) and the reorganization of the General Board.”
Focus groups and internal and external discussions will characterize this effort to achieve the desired results of G.A. 310. The Board of General Superintendents, along with the Executive Committee, requests prayer for God’s leadership in this bold initiative to respond the will of the General Assembly, and to envision new efficiencies that translate into effective engagement of our mission statement: “To make Christlike disciples in the nations.”
