Cunningham Encourages Evangelism on Eurasia Region

General Superintendent Paul Cunningham recently traveled on the Eurasia Region to hold assemblies and ordain ministers on the Southwestern Germany, Scandinavian, British Isles South, British Isles North, Russia South, and Russia North districts. Across these six districts, he preached on outreach and reports some encouraging evangelistic efforts.

Gains on the Scandinavian District reflect the ministry of a new church plant in Oslo. Nazarenes have recognized the growing immigrant population in both Denmark and Norway as a fertile field. Jorge Rocha, an employee at the Cape Verde embassy in Oslo, Norway, and bivocational pastor of the Oslo Church of the Nazarene, represents a new thrust of evangelism in this secular society. Dr. Cunningham reports the Oslo church is infusing enthusiasm into the Scandinavian District regarding potential for a real harvest field ministry among Cape Verdean immigrants.

Encouraging reports were delivered from Nazarene Theological College at Manchester, where they are structuring a new program of evangelism training that is being enthusiastically received by the church. The college has an enrollment of 249 students.

In Glasgow, Scotland, Dr. Cunningham conducted the assembly for the British Isles North District, including the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Church of the Nazarene in the United Kingdom. The historic Parkhead Church, also 100 years old, was chosen as the site of the festivities, which included speeches by several who had been ordained in that building and recognition of all elders ever ordained there. Dr. Cunningham challenged Nazarenes for the next 100 years in this part of the world where more people are now converting to Islam than to Christianity and evangelistic outreach is more crucial than ever.

On the Russia South District, Dr. Cunningham ordained three, including one of the first couples won through the ministry of the Church of the Nazarene in Russia. He gives this encouraging report from the Russia North St. Petersburg Church: “Pastor Mikhail Mendakove and the St. Petersburg Nazarenes are having amazing evangelism results among military officers in training. Through the center for military personnel they operate, last year they ministered to more than 400, and seven have accepted Christ. Some call the four million Russian soldiers an unreached peoples group, but we are beginning to reach them to the glory of God.”
